The Inherent Randomness of Evolving Populations
نویسنده
چکیده
The entropy rates of the Wright-Fisher process, the Moran process, and generalizations are computed and used to compare these processes and their dependence on standard evolutionary parameters. Entropy rates are measures of the variation dependent on both short-run and long-run behavior, and allow the relationships between mutation, selection, and population size to be examined. Bounds for the entropy rate are given for the Moran process (independent of population size) and for the Wright-Fisher process (bounded for fixed population size). A generational Moran process is also presented for comparison to the Wright-Fisher Process. Results include analytic results and computational extensions.

Evolving artificial neural networks to combine financial forecasts
We conduct evolutionary programming experiments to evolve artificial neural networks for forecast combination. Using stock price volatility forecast data we find evolved networks compare favorably with a naı̈ve average combination, a least squares method, and a Kernel method on out-of-sample forecasting ability—the best evolved network showed strong superiority in statistical tests of encompassi...
متن کاملEXPECTED PAYOFF OF TRADING STRATEGIES INVOLVING EUROPEAN OPTIONS FOR FUZZY FINANCIAL MARKET
Uncertainty inherent in the financial market was usually consid- ered to be random. However, randomness is only one special type of uncer- tainty and appropriate when describing objective information. For describing subjective information it is preferred to assume that uncertainty is fuzzy. This paper defines the expected payoof trading strategies in a fuzzy financial market within the framewor...
متن کاملA Randomness Test for Stable Data
In this paper, we propose a new method for checking randomness of non-Gaussian stable data based on a characterization result. This method is more sensitive with respect to non-random data compared to the well-known non-parametric randomness tests.
متن کاملTESTING FOR “RANDOMNESS” IN SPATIAL POINT PATTERNS, USING TEST STATISTICS BASED ON ONE-DIMENSIONAL INTER-EVENT DISTANCES
To test for “randomness” in spatial point patterns, we propose two test statistics that are obtained by “reducing” two-dimensional point patterns to the one-dimensional one. Also the exact and asymptotic distribution of these statistics are drawn.
متن کاملA ROBUST OPTIMIZATION MODEL FOR BLOOD SUPPLY CHAIN NETWORK DESIGN
The eternal need for humans' blood as a critical commodity makes the healthcare systems attempt to provide efficient blood supply chains (BSCs) by which the requirements are satisfied at the maximum level. To have an efficient supply of blood, an appropriate planning for blood supply chain is a challenge which requires more attention. In this paper, we address a mixed integer linear programming...
